Gann Online Help: System Search

Search the Full Gann Library

System Search -- the default setting for Gann Online and the left-most tab on the Top Toolbar -- lets users quickly and easily find any topic, case, statute or rule anywhere in the Gann Library. Simply choose one of four search methods, enter the search term(s) and click on the Search button to find every reference in all of Gann's extensive library of treatises and all cases in N.J. and N.J. Superior Reports. If you prefer, you may limit your search to a single treatise or database. Just click on the Single Treatise tab in the Top Toolbar on any page.

Search Methods

There are four search methods available in System Search:

1. Boolean Search

The Boolean Search option allows users to search for a topic, concept or specific term. Just enter your search terms, using words, phrases and connectors, in the box and click on the Search button. Or retrieve a prior search by clicking on the Get Last 10 Searches link above the box.

2. Search by Case Cite

The Search by Case Cite option allows users to retrieve all references to a single case. Enter the volume number in the first box, choose the reporter from the dropdown box in the center and enter the page number in the right-hand box, then click on the Search button.

3. Search by Case Name

The Search by Case Name option allows users to retrieve all references to a single case using all or part of a case name. Enter the full or partial case name ("Gentry" or "State v. Gentry", for example) in the box (using appropriate capital letters since the search is case-sensitive) and click on the Search button.

4. Search by Reference

The Search by Reference option allows users to retrieve all references to court rules, evidence rules, statutes, regulations, federal rules and more. First choose the type of reference by using the dropdown box (Evidence, for example, for N.J.R.E.) and then enter the specific reference (703, for example) and click on the Search button.
